Many of these newspapers have articles in the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lib.umich.edu\/database\/link\/9497\">Encyclopedia of African American Society <\/a>if you would like to learn more about them. \u00a0The newspapers included are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Atlanta Daily World (1931-2003)<\/li>\n<li>Baltimore Afro-American (1893-1988)<\/li>\n<li>Chicago Defender (1909-1975)<\/li>\n<li>Los Angeles Sentinel (1934-2005)<\/li>\n<li>New York Amsterdam News (1922-1993)<\/li>\n<li>Pittsburgh Courier (1911-2002)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Search Tip:\u00a0<\/strong>Click on &#8220;Advanced Search&#8221; and changed publication date to &#8220;Specific date range&#8221; to limit your search to the 1960s.<\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\"><strong><a href=\" http:\/\/www.lib.umich.edu\/database\/link\/9371\">ProQuest Historical Newspapers<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>allows you to search through all of the titles included in Black Historical Newspapers along with the following major US newspapers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The New York Times<\/li>\n<li>The Wall Street Journal<\/li>\n<li>The Washington Post<\/li>\n<li>The Chicago Tribune<\/li>\n<li>The LA Times<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Search Tip<\/strong>: In order to search specifically through the 1960s, click on &#8220;Advanced Search&#8221; above the search window.\u00a0 Change publication date to &#8220;Specific date range&#8221; and and change the years to 1960-1969.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lib.umich.edu\/database\/link\/11183\">African American Newspapers, 1827-1998<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0searches through roughly 270 historical African American Newspapers, eleven of which were publishing during the 1960s:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Soul City Times (Milwaukee, WI)<\/li>\n<li>Milwaukee Star<\/li>\n<li>Bronze Texan News<\/li>\n<li>Minority Report (Dayton, OH)<\/li>\n<li>Harlem Daily<\/li>\n<li>Mississippi Free Press<\/li>\n<li>Inside New Orleans<\/li>\n<li>Kansas Sentinel<\/li>\n<li>Los Angeles Tribune<\/li>\n<li>Southern Mediator Journal (Little Rock, AK)<\/li>\n<li>Alaska Spotlight<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Search Tip<\/strong>: to narrow the time period to the 1960s, enter 1960-1969 in the &#8220;Custom Date Range&#8221; box.<\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"50%\"><a href=\"http:\/\/access.newspaperarchive.com.proxy.lib.umich.edu\/\"><strong>Access Newspaper Archive <\/strong><\/a>is a great place to start if you are looking for local news articles or if you would like to search for Civil Rights news articles from a specific location.\u00a0 Clicking on browse will take you to a map where you can browse by state.\u00a0 For example, Access Newspaper Archive contains seventeen publications that were in circulation between 1960 and 1969 in the state of Michigan.
