The documentary is split up into various volumes. Volumes 1-3 cover the years 1954-1965 and are known collectively as <em>Eyes on the Prize I: America&#8217;s Civil Rights Years 1954-1965<\/em>. \u00a0Volumes 4-7 are known as <em>Eyes on the Prize II: \u00a0America at the Racial Crossroads 1965-1985.<\/em> The documentary is <a href=\"http:\/\/mirlyn.lib.umich.edu\/Record\/005282711\">available to be checked out or viewed<\/a>\u00a0(Mirlyn record for DVD version) at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lib.umich.edu\/askwith-media-library\">Askwith Media Library<\/a> in Shapiro.<\/p>\n<p>More information about the documentary can be viewed at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/wgbh\/amex\/eyesontheprize\/about\/index.html\">Eyes on the Prize PBS site<\/a>\u00a0where you can also find <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/wgbh\/amex\/eyesontheprize\/about\/pt.html\">downloadable transcripts<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/wgbh\/amex\/eyesontheprize\/about\/fr.html\">further readings<\/a>. The documentary tells the story of the music that fueled the movement. Though the documentary was originally a theatrical release, it was later aired on PBS&#8217;s American Experience which now hosts <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/wgbh\/americanexperience\/films\/soundtrack\/\">an important companion website<\/a> to the documentary. On the site you can find useful resources such as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/wgbh\/americanexperience\/features\/general-article\/soundtrack-lyrics\/\">lyrics of the freedom songs<\/a>, a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/wgbh\/americanexperience\/features\/timeline\/soundtrack\/\">collection of timelines<\/a> related to the Civil Rights Movement as a whole and important individuals in the movement, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/wgbh\/americanexperience\/features\/further-reading\/soundtrack-further-reading\/\">further readings<\/a> related to the music of the Civil Rights Movement.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/mirlyn.lib.umich.edu\/Record\/008935412\">Soundtrack of a Revolution<\/a><\/em>\u00a0(Mirlyn record for DVD) is available to be viewed or checked out at the Askwith Media Library.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Documentaries<\/h3>\n<p>There have been numerous other documentaries which focus on other aspects\u00a0of the Civil Rights Movement. \u00a0A list of these documentaries can be found on <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Category:Documentary_films_about_the_African-American_Civil_Rights_Movement_(1955\u20131968)\">here<\/a>. Highlights from this list include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/mirlyn.lib.umich.edu\/Record\/005346876\">February One: The Story of the Greensboro Four<\/a>\u00a0(Mirlyn DVD Record) &#8211; the story of a sit-in in Greensboro, North Carolina, which served as a spark for later protests. More information <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/independentlens\/februaryone\/\">hosted on the PBS Independent Lens site.<\/a><\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/mirlyn.lib.umich.edu\/Record\/010589291\">Freedom Riders<\/a> (Mirlyn Blu-Ray Record) &#8211; how segregation on public transportation in the South came to an end through the courageous actions of the &#8220;Freedom Riders.&#8221; The entire documentary can be streamed for free <a href=\"http:\/\/video.pbs.org\/video\/1925571160\/\">here<\/a> on PBS American Experience. The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/wgbh\/americanexperience\/freedomriders\/\">companion website<\/a> contains many useful resources including an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/wgbh\/americanexperience\/freedomriders\/rides\">interactive map<\/a> of the freedom rides, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/wgbh\/americanexperience\/freedomriders\/people\">biographies of the Riders<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/wgbh\/americanexperience\/freedomriders\/people\/roster\">a roster<\/a> of all the freedom rides.<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/mirlyn.lib.umich.edu\/Record\/005953355\">King: A Filmed Record&#8230; Montgomery to Memphis<\/a> (Mirlyn DVD Record) &#8211; originally screened for one night only in 1970, for many years this documentary was unavailable to the public. The documentary uses mostly original newsreel footage to narrate the story of Martin Luther King, Jr.&#8217;s \u00a0campaign for social justice. More information on the film can be found on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kinolorber.com\/video.php?id=1288\">the documentary&#8217;s website<\/a>\u00a0and in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/movie\/review?res=9405E7DE143EE034BC4C51DFB566838B669EDE\">this New York Times review<\/a> from the original screening.<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/mirlyn.lib.umich.edu\/Record\/003520082\">Malcolm X: Make It Plain<\/a> (Mirlyn VHS Record) &#8211; another PBS American Experience documentary, this one narrating the life of Malcolm X, a controversial human rights activist tangentially associated with the Civil Rights Movement.
